GRID START

Welcome to GRID START, a challenge to your driving skills and the speed of your reflexes under pressure. You are an aspirant to the ultimate accolade of being the Grand Prix Champion of the Professional class. You can however attempt the Novice and Amateur championship sections first. You will be competing against 23 other cars and the competition is going to be tough.

You are driving a six gear Formula 1 car. The secret of driving a racing car is in the rapid changing of gears, the instinctive knowledge of the maximum speed at which a particular bend can be safely taken and the opportune use of the brakes and the boost.

Each circuit is faithfully reproduced. You are advised to do several practice laps before entering the competition. Learn the course thoroughly so that you know instinctively which bend to expect. Learn to position your car to take advantage of the bend. Your car is fitted with Boost. There is only a limited amount of Boost available. Use it sparingly to overtake and to get ahead and stay ahead.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Press FIRE to exit the title screen and load the rest of the program.  You will be shown six tracks and the menu.  You can move the highlight using the Joystick.

SKILL

NOVICE, AMATEUR or PROFESSIONAL. Press FIRE to change the skill level.

TRACK

The track number will change when the FIRE is pressed.

PRACTICE

Select PRACTICE or COMPETE by pressing FIRE, DONE. When satisfied, press FIRE to start the game.

COMPETE

You can select the track order. When you have completed the required number of laps the high score table will show your time, points and championship placing. Press FIRE to display the track screen and make the next track choice.

PRACTICE

You can practice any track for as long as you like. You may quit by pressing ESC key and return to the track display screen. The correct selection of gears is very important. You may have to change gears two or three times to take a bend correctly. Learn to apply minimum amount of braking at the right time.

Learn to apply the gears quickly as pressing the FIRE also gives the BOOST.
