| Comments: | Jon Hare (aka Jops) is the main man behind the classic games Megalomania,
Cannon Fodder and Sensible Soccer. In 1981 he met and became friends
with Chris Yates. In 1985 they dropped
out of college and started working for LT Software. After making Twister
they formed Sensible Software and produced their first game Parallax which
was picked up by Ocean for £1000. Many accolades followed starting with
Wizball being awarded Game of the Decade by Zzap 64. In 1987 Jon was also
responsible for Shoot-em-Up Construction Kit (SEUCK) a game design program
aimed at non programmers.
Over the following years Sensible went from strength to strength and it seemed they could do no wrong. However, after the release of Sensible Golf arguably their worst game for the Amiga things started to sour. Sensible had decided to leave the Amiga and concentrate on the PC market. A rushed release of Sensible Soccer World Cup 98 and it's less than favourable reviews left them concentrating on a new game Sex n Drugs n Rock n Roll. After spending some £2m developing this adult oriented title they were unable to secure a publishing deal for the game which was three quarters complete. This led to financial difficulties and Sensible Software becoming a subsidiary of Codemasters. I am not sure what Jon is doing at present the last mention I had was of his involvement in the Codemaster's title Mike Tyson Heavyweight Boxing prior to his departure from their employment. |
